Home Remedies For Reversing Gum Disease

Reversing Gum Disease From Home

If you’re still in the early stages of a gum disease, you have no cause for worry. Treating gum disease is not as difficult or as expensive as you think it is. Rest assured, you are not the only one facing this problem. There are also many home remedies for gum disease that you can prepare yourself. Most of these home remedies are easy to prepare, and you and anyone in your household can certainly benefit from them.

Easy Home Remedies

Besides the ease of preparation, what’s great about these home remedies is that you do not have to be suffering from swollen or bleeding gums. These remedies can both treat and prevent periodontal disease.

Here is a list of suggested alternative medications for gum disease:

1. Turmeric Paste

Turmeric is a very powerful herb. When used with garlic, it makes for a good natural remedy for irritated gums. A garlic-laced turmeric paste can be used in lieu of a toothpaste. You can use a brush or apply it directly on your teeth and gum line. Both garlic and turmeric are antibacterial, so they can effectively ward off bacteria from your mouth. Let the paste stay on your mouth for a few minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly.

2. Natural Oil (e.g. olive, sesame, coconut or vegetable oil)

This method is alternatively called “oil pulling” and is said to effectively treat swollen, bleeding and totally damaged gums. Make sure to use organic oil and apply it on affected areas. Applying oil on your gum line not only remove plaque build-up (according to certain studies), but it also helps pull toxins out of your mouth. The natural oil helps fight off the bacteria stuck in the pockets between your teeth and gums.

3. Neem Plant

Indians have been using the neem plant for centuries now. This plant has a number of uses, from healing to repelling insects. Neem can be used as an alternative mouthwash or toothpaste. You can apply it in the same way you apply the turmeric-garlic paste. Another redeeming quality of this plant aside from its versatility is that it is both antibacterial and antifungal. Like other alternative remedies mentioned above, it gets rid of bacteria in your mouth and your gums.

Of course, don’t forget to check with your dentist regularly even as you continue to use these home remedies to prevent or treat an existing gum disease. With regular check-ups, you will know how severe your gum disease is and see whether you only need to rely on alternative medication or seek professional dental treatment.
